Townsend calls it a day after 43 years

Circular Head local, Barney Townsend, has called it a day after 43 years’ service to Britton Timbers.

Townsend left school in 1979, commencing at the timber yard on January 17, 1980, and becoming a full time employee on October 14 the same year.

“It’s a long time,” Townsend said.

“I’ve had a number of different jobs over the years. Changing jobs makes the time go a bit quicker because you’re not stuck doing the same thing all the time.”

During his time at Brittons, Townsend has held a number of different roles including, but not limited to, Racker, Recut Benchman and Edger Operator. He has also seen a number of changes to not only Britton Timbers, but the timber industry as a whole in his 43-year service.
