Circular Head was invited to hear the “No” campaign’s debate against the upcoming Voice to Parliament referendum on Tuesday, June 27, at a well-attended forum at the Circular Head Community and Recreation Centre.
Braddon Liberal MHA Gavin Pearce and Country Liberal Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price joined Circular Head Aboriginal Corporation chairperson Selina Colgrave to outline their concerns about the proposed Voice to Parliament and take questions from the community.
Organisers were questioned by one person, who said that in a true democracy both sides of the argument would be presented.
Mrs Colgrave said that CHAC was committed to presenting the “Yes” argument at another forum in the future, as well as an information session from the Australian Electoral Commission.
She said this debate should be about what is best for Aboriginal people, but that had been “lost in the politics”.
