Coming home

Chef Kade Jenkins has created a culinary experience where locals and visitors will feel as though they’re right at home.

Jenski Cafe and Restaurant in The Smithton Club translates to ‘one who comes home’ in English.

The new eatery in Smith Street will open its doors on Tuesday October 1.

“The biggest thing for me is to support local businesses as my suppliers and showcase what we’ve got here,” Kade said of his vision for Jenski.

“Tourists come to town and want to try something local.

“The Cape Grim brand is known worldwide and we’ve got Perry’s right across the road!”

With this in mind, Kade has created a menu that showcases the region’s premium produce.

Jenski sources freshly baked breads from Cottage Kitchen Bakehouse, Tasmanian meat from Perry’s Quality Meats and the freshest of fruit and vegetables from Smithton Country Market.

A true family venture, Kade is supported by mum and dad Trudy and Mark Jenkins who will both be in and out of the kitchen from time to time, along with sister Claire and Carol Medwin as waitresses and apprentice chef Jordan Marthick.

Open from 6.30am daily, the smell of roasting coffee beans will drift onto the street as the sun rises, enticing locals to stop in for a spot of breakfast.

All the classics will be served, from eggs and bacon, omelette and a loaded breakfast to lighter options like yoghurt panna cotta, muesli and toast.

From 11.30am a seasonal lunch menu will open, offering something for all appetites. Fresh fish and chips, nourish bowls or hearty burgers are only a few of the options on the tempting menu.

Sit back in the afternoon with a glass of wine in the company of friends and family and delight in a grazing board of Tasmanian cheeses, crackers and fruits and other culinary delights.

The fridge will always be stocked with sandwiches, sushi, salads, focaccias and wraps for those in a hurry. And as a qualified pastry chef, Kade’s cakes and desserts will tempt all tastebuds.

Come home to Jenski Cafe and Restaurant at 21-23 Smith Street, Smithton.

Jenski Cafe and Restaurant chef Kade Jenkins’ mushroom and pesto bruschetta will be on the menu when the Smith Street eatery opens its doors next week.
