Six secures premiership

The Tall Timbers Forest Stanley Demons are the reigning Burnie Cricket League Twenty20 premiers.

The team defeated Acton and Yolla by forfeit in round one of the competition before the weather forced an abandoned match against Stowport in round two, along with a 35-run victory against Natone.

Finishing rounds one and two in second spot on the ladder, the Demons gained a place in the Second Semi Final against Stowport last Sunday.

Winning the toss, Forest Stanley batted the first innings led by a strong and steady Nic Bellinger (68). Bellinger began with opening batsmen Lachlan Bissett (1) then third in the order Anthony Nicholls (3), before finding momentum with Shannon Bakes (26).

Connor Bramich (21) stoked the middle order scores along with Marty Hardy (12) in the lower order.

After 20 overs, the side secured a score of 9/171.

The Forest Stanley bowlers kept the opposing run rate low in the second innings with Hardy (3/33) being the standout of the day, taking his figures from four overs.

Jimmy Martin (2/24), Iain Bruce (1/18) and Nic Bellinger (1/18) took the remaining wickets to hold Stowport to 7/160 and move into the Grand Final.

Meeting with Natone in the premiership match, the home side set a target of 8/137 for the Forest Stanley Demons to chase.

Bowlers Martin (3/26) and Mitchell Bellinger (1/10) took the top wickets while Bissett (46) and Mitchell Bellinger (22) achieved the highest batting totals.

Forest Stanley required five runs on the final ball to win the match and Martin stepped up to the task.

Martin smashed the ball for six, slogging it over George Street at the Ridgley Recreation Ground for the premiership victory, 7/139.

Premiers of the Burnie Cricket League Twenty20 competition, Tall Timbers Forest Stanley Demons mark the milestone.
