Smithton High School (SHS) students have achieved outstanding results at the BIG Science Fair 2024. The event, held recently, highlighted the exceptional talent and innovative research of local students.
Among the seven groups from SHS who participated, two teams stood out with remarkable accomplishments.
Huon Prior was awarded the desired title of Young Scientist of the Year for his groundbreaking research on the use of wood smoke as an antimicrobial agent. His study demonstrated that smoke from pine trees could effectively disinfect both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. For his exceptional work, Huon received a $1000 cash prize.
